As declared in the Budget 2015-16 by our Finance Minister, the service tax is to be increased to 14% (net). However, this can only be done after making requisite amendments in the Bill and it has to be passed in Parliament, which then be declared through a Government Order (GO).
This has not been done yet. This means that the service tax is 12.36% yet (Hurrayyyyy).
As they say power of information is the most important power. Some of the service providers like Salons, Restaurants etc are deluding common people by charging them 14% service tax, thus making an illegal profit of 1.64% on their service.
It is to be noted that the Government shall be charging service tax @ 12.36% till the period GO comes out for revision in service tax. Thus be aware of all those services providers, who are charging 14% as service tax in their bills. You are not liable to pay that amount. Just show them a copy of this blog as a proof or mail their Bills at contact@munim.in and Munim Team will get your money back to you.
Once again, Service Tax is still 12.36% only.
